Dog-Ear Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 6, 2026
Marie Glow Studio ("we", "us") runs Dog-Ear. This explains what we collect, why, and what you can do about it. The short version: we keep your reading data to run the app for you, we do not sell it, and we do not show ads.
What we collect
- Account details: your email address and a password (we store only a scrambled version of the password, never the password itself).
- What you put in the app: the books in your library, your reading status and dates, ratings, notes, journal pages, sticker placement, goals, photos and cover pictures you upload.
- Payment information: payments are handled by Stripe. We receive a record that you paid (amount, date, and a payment reference) but never your full card number.
- Basic technical information: things servers see automatically, like your IP address, browser type and the time of each request. We use this to keep the service secure and working. We do not use it to follow you around the internet.
- Camera (optional): if you use the barcode scanner, the app asks your browser for camera access. The picture stays on your phone and is only used to read the barcode. We do not receive the video.
We do not collect your location, contacts or anything from other apps.
Why we use it
- to run the app and show you your library on all your devices;
- to take payments and prevent fraud;
- to keep backups so you do not lose your data;
- to keep the service secure, fix problems and answer your emails;
- to tell you about important changes to the app or these policies. We will not send marketing email unless you choose to receive it.
Who else handles your data
We use a few other services to run Dog-Ear. They only get what they need to do their job:
- Hosting: Fly.io, which stores the app and your data on servers in the United States.
- Payments: Stripe.
- Book information and covers: when you add a book, the app asks Open Library (and in some cases another public book database) for its title, details and cover using the book's title, author or ISBN. We do not send your name or account details.
- Email: we do not send marketing email. Stripe emails you a receipt when you pay.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for advertising.
Shared covers
If you upload a cover picture for a book, it may be offered to other readers who add the same book. Only the image and the book's title, author and ISBN are shared. Never your name, email, notes or reading history. You can opt out in settings or ask us to remove a cover.
How long we keep it
We keep your data while your account is open. If you delete your account we remove your content within 30 days, and from backups within 90 days. We keep payment records as long as tax law requires.
Your choices and rights
- See and download your data: use Export in the app, or email hello@marieglowstudio.com.
- Correct it: you can edit most of it yourself in the app.
- Delete it: delete your account in the app, or email us.
- If you live in California, the EU, the UK or another place with privacy laws, you may have extra rights, such as objecting to certain uses or complaining to a regulator. Email hello@marieglowstudio.com and we will help.
Security
Data travels over encrypted connections (https). Passwords are stored scrambled. Access to our servers is limited and protected. No online service is perfectly safe, so if something goes wrong that affects your data we will tell you promptly, as the law requires.
Children
Dog-Ear is not for children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their information. If you think a child has given us data, email us and we will delete it.
Cookies
We use only the cookies needed to keep you signed in. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies.
Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we will tell you by email or in the app before it takes effect.
